Thin Kerf Ripping care

Thin kerf ripping blades need attention before heat and pitch start steering the cut. Focus on tooth condition, flange contact, and storage that protects the plate from knocks between pine runs and hardwood jobs.

Care cadence for Thin Kerf Ripping

After ripping SA pine, clear resin from the gullets and the side faces before the blade goes back on the rack. Check both flanges for fine dust or pitch, because a thin plate shows small mounting errors quickly. Store the blade upright in a sleeve or rack slot so the carbide is not touching another disc.

Each week, wash off sap build-up from blades used on wet timber, shutter ply, or laminated board with glue squeeze-out. Once a month, inspect bore wear, plate flatness, and the arbor nut torque card on the machine. Following load-shedding stoppages, let a hot blade cool fully before setting fence measurements for a finish rip.

When thin plates need pulling

Take the blade out of service if you see chipped carbide, blue heat marks near the rim, or wandering that stays after cleaning the arbor and flanges. Thin kerf ripping blades can often be sharpened if the plate is still true and the tips have enough carbide left. Where the body has been strained by pinching timber or unstable feed pressure, replacement is usually the safer option.

Through the contact form, list what you see on the teeth, bore and plate, including any burn marks. That helps us point you toward care steps, storage hardware, or the right parts under Holders for your saw setup.

Rack storage for ripping discs

Keep thin kerf ripping blades vertical with each tooth edge separated by foam, plastic sleeves, or individual rack spacing. On workshop vehicles between Kya Sands sites or out to customer installs, secure the blade so it cannot flex against other steel. If a reducer ring travels with the blade, bag and label it with the bore size before dispatch.
