Care
Plastic Triple Chip blades need different care from timber saws because swarf from acrylic, PVC and polycarbonate behaves differently in the tooth pockets. Keep the plate clean, store the blade so the carbide cannot knock against another disc, and inspect the triple chip profile before deciding on sharpening. Once the chamfered tooth corners are broken away, cut quality drops fast on sheet stock.
Plastic dust sticks to heat, not only to dirt. After runs in acrylic or ABS, wipe the blade body, clean around the gullets, and check both flanges for packed fines before the next setup. Store one blade per sleeve or rack position so the triple chip tips do not touch each other and lose their edge shape.
Each week, remove built-up plastic from the tooth pockets with a soft brush and suitable cleaner. Every month, inspect flange faces, bore condition and arbor grip, especially on panel saws that swap between wood and plastic work. After load-shedding interruptions, let a hot blade cool fully before restarting precise cuts in cast acrylic, as heat marks and welding are more likely on the first pass back.
Send a blade for sharpening when the edge starts whitening plastic, leaves heavy burrs, or needs extra feed pressure to stay on line. Replace it when teeth are chipped, the body shows damage near the gullets, or wobble remains after cleaning the arbor and flanges. On Plastic Triple Chip patterns, keeping the tooth geometry accurate matters more than stretching one more shift from a tired set.
Use the contact form if you want us to look at tooth damage, bore wear or repeat melting on cut edges. Clear photos of the tips, bore and the material being cut help us point you to care steps, the right arbor parts, or a suitable replacement route. See Holders for reducers, flanges and storage options that protect the blade between jobs.
Keep Plastic Triple Chip blades upright on a rack or in individual sleeves with the teeth protected from knocks. If a blade travels between branches or goes out with a machine, pack reducers with it and label the bore size clearly so it is not forced onto the wrong arbor. In coastal air around Durban or Cape Town, dry the plate before storage to limit staining on the body and around the bore.
