Setup guide for Melamine Anti-Chip

Fit the Melamine Anti-Chip blade to a clean arbor and check that both flanges sit flat with no dust trapped behind them. Raise the blade just above the board thickness, then set the scoring blade so it nicks the face layer without widening the main cut. In Gauteng workshops, a short test after a cold start helps pick up movement in the saw before good board goes on the table.

Use the correct bore for the machine, especially on 30 mm arbors common on panel saws and cabinet saws. Any play at the reducer shows up fast as edge breakout on white melamine and high-gloss stock. Before cutting, confirm the riving knife is centred to the blade body and not pushing the sheet off line near the back teeth.

Keep one sample strip from the first clean cut and mark it with blade name, height, scorer setting, and board brand. That piece gives the next operator a visual reference for top-face and bottom-face quality. On busy shop walls, a marked sample often settles setup questions quicker than a typed note.

Scoring and feed settings

Melamine does not forgive rushed feed or excess projection above the sheet. Let the anti-chip tooth form do the work, with steady pressure and full support across the panel. If the top face is clean but the underside still breaks, reduce scoring width and check that the panel stays tight to the table through the cut.

Use this setup page together with the matching material path and the relevant kerf note when changing between board types or saws. If your machine falls outside the common workshop range, send the details through our contact form with arbor size, motor power, and sheet thickness.

Signs the setup is off

Stop and reset if you see top-face feathering, underside breakout, burn marks on dark decors, or a score line that shows beside the main kerf. Those signs usually point to poor blade height, a scorer that is too wide, or sideways movement in the sheet. On a full pack job, correcting the setup early saves far more board than pushing through the defect.

If stock is coming from projects around Clearwater, Cresta, Pavilion, Tyger Valley, Baywest, Mimosa, or Riverside, pass on the blade name and the board finish when the job changes hands. A note that mentions gloss, texture, or double-sided melamine helps the next operator keep chip control consistent.

Blade advice for odd machines

Our contact form is the place to send setup questions from Kya Sands, Johannesburg. Include the blade code, saw type, arbor diameter, scorer details, and the melamine brand if you have it.
