Melamine Anti-Chip care

Melamine Anti-Chip blades need three habits kept tight: pitch removal, dry storage, and honest inspection before the next sheet run. Fine edge work on white and gloss boards shows dirt and tiny tooth damage much faster than general ripping. If scoring quality drops at the top face, stop and check the blade before changing panel settings.

Care cadence for Melamine Anti-Chip

Start with the clamping faces, because a clean tooth line means little if resin sits between blade and flange. Melamine glue and board dust pack into the gullets and around the shoulder behind the tips, especially after long cutting runs on coated chipboard. Store the blade upright in a sleeve or rack slot so the anti-chip geometry does not knock against other steel.

Each week, wash off build-up with a blade-safe cleaner and a nylon brush, then dry the plate fully before it goes back into storage. Once a month, inspect bore wear, body tension, and any blueing near the rim from heat during repeated panel cuts. After load-shedding stoppages, do not restart on a hot blade straight into finished melamine, because heat can leave a rougher top edge on the first few cuts.

When tooth damage ends service

Send a Melamine Anti-Chip blade for sharpening when the edge dulls evenly but the tips remain complete and the plate still runs true. Retire it if corners have broken off, if burn marks keep returning after cleaning, or if chipping appears on both faces of the board with confirmed saw setup. Workshop teams in Johannesburg, Durban, and Cape Town often sharpen TCT panel blades successfully, but severe tooth loss usually means replacement.

See Holders for storage sleeves, racks, and related parts that prevent tooth knocks between jobs.

Rack storage for fine teeth

Keep these blades off loose shelves where carbide can tap against arbor nuts, spanners, or another blade stack. For site moves between shops or fit-out work, use a rigid case or cardboard tooth guard so the fine alternate tooth pattern stays protected. Where coastal air is an issue around Durban or Cape Town, wipe the plate dry before storage to reduce surface rust around the body and bore.
