Care
A scoring pair needs more attention to matching than a single saw blade. Keep the left and right pieces together after cleaning so width settings stay predictable on the panel saw. If one disc has chipped teeth, blue heat marks, or uneven wear on the outer bevel, inspect both before sending anything for sharpening.
Pitch from melamine, MDF binders, and chipboard glue collects quickly on scoring teeth and changes the width of the pre-cut. Start with a resin cleaner and a soft brass or nylon brush, working around the gullets and the side faces without knocking the carbide edges. Store the pair on separate pegs or in a divided case so the teeth do not touch while the set remains identifiable.
Each week, remove the pair and check resin build-up, bore condition, and the seating faces against the scoring arbor. Once a month, confirm the scoring width against the main blade kerf and note any drift after sharpen cycles. After load-shedding restarts, let the spindle come fully up to speed and listen for chatter before cutting glossy board or double-sided laminate.
Replace or resharpen when the scoring cut no longer clears the main blade line, even after correct side-shim or width adjustment. Carbide scoring teeth can often be serviced by sharpening shops in Johannesburg, Durban, and Cape Town, provided the body is still flat and the bore has not fretted. Retire the pair if cracks show near the bore, if one half has lost tooth geometry, or if repeated setup still leaves breakout on the bottom face.
Note the condition of both scoring discs, the bore and any edge damage in the contact form. That makes it easier to point you to setup advice, the correct replacement route, or matching hardware in Holders. Include the machine model and the main blade kerf if the issue is chipping rather than outright wear.
Mark each half of the scoring pair before it leaves the saw so it goes back in the same orientation after cleaning or sharpening. For workshop storage, use sleeves, foam separators, or a rigid box that stops the thin bodies from knocking against larger blades. If a pair is packed for courier or air freight through OR Tambo, label bore size, width range, and rotation clearly to avoid mix-ups at the receiving machine.

Start with our contact form and note whether the scoring pair is cutting melamine, veneer-faced board, or coated chipboard. Add your workshop location, such as Kya Sands, Johannesburg, plus the scorer arbor size and the main blade kerf so the care advice matches the saw setup.
